The Earth Needs Your Help, NowPresident Donald Trump and his gang of corporate criminals are working hard to Make America Polluted Again (MAPA). The main way they are doing this is weakening the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and using their control of it to weaken its regulations and enforcement actions. This will endanger the health of Americans. It will also endanger the rest of the global human population, as well as about every living thing on this planet. Trump taking a wrecking ball to the United States EPA must be stopped. This is a time for global cooperation to end greenhouse gas emissions and other forms of pollution and environmental destruction of this planet. The Trump Administration is doing many other things that are supposed to help his real estate, crypto con artist, fossil fuel industry, and greedy swarm of followers. Most will be immediately harmful to the pocketbooks of ordinary Americans. In addition, they look likely to backfire, throwing us into an economic depression that will hurt even the billionaires. Not everyone can focus on protecting the natural environment, given how few people step up to fight for the public good, and how many social institutions need defending. Those of us that can need a better plan, and more effective action, than we have taken in the past. This needs to go beyond simply electing better candidates for federal office in 2026 and then 2028. We need to strengthen the EPA, weaken (preferably destroy) the fossil fuel industry, and put greed-heads on notice that our culture and laws will no longer tolerate their bad behavior. We need to rejoin international agreements and make them mandatory, hopefully even creating a Global Environmental Protection Agency. We cannot do those things with the same old tactics. I do not want to diminish the hard work of environmental activists and organization. Perhaps we need new organizations, perhaps the older ones like the Sierra Club, Environmental Defense Fund, and 350 need to do more to figure out how to achieve their goals. Perhaps we need a bit more unity, and energy, and a bit less patting ourselves on the back for going hiking. Given the complexity of the world, the human mind, and politics, we need to think in more strategic terms, while not neglecting perfecting tactics. Clearly targeting Republican politicians at the national, state, and local levels is important. We need to focus on the immediately vulnerable, while building up a new set of green politicians from below. This may mean, at times, supporting in the primary a moderate Democrat who can win over a radical Democrat who will lose. I think the lefter part of the Democratic Party has been way too soft on anti-social (criminal) behavior, and that has cost us the ability to protect the environment. Part of this is about how we talk to voters, part of it is them seeing what happens when criminal behavior metastasizes. We should be anti-drug and the bad behavior that goes with the use of hard drugs. We do not need to be cruel, but we do need to be firm. We need to be firmer on the environment, too. It took far to long to get renewable energy on a fast track in the U.S. It took far to long to give the EPA power to regulate greenhouse gas emissions. [A power Trump is taking away, among others. [See E.P.A. Targets Dozens of Environmental Rules] I call on both the seniors who were young when the EPA was formed in 1970, and those who are young now and know their future is being destroyed by geezers likes of Donald Trump, Lee Zeldin, and Mike Wirth, to take a stand. Don't just stand, rush for the barricades [join an environmental organization, volunteer for a political candidate, demand better in every way.] Make the government your government. Use it to protect the Earth. You may also want to go to my blog page for future updates. Thank you for your attention. |
