Ulysses S. Grant was the 18th President of the United States of America. Born April 27, 1822, he made a career in the U.S. army, cumulating as its commander towards the end of the Civil War. He sought election in 1868 as a member of the Republican Party. He became President on March 4, 1869 and served until March 4, 1877. He died on July 23, 1885.
