Pacific Lumber Company linked to Organized Crime Possible clues to bombing of Judi Bari found by Bill Meyers Note: The following is a summary of the article "Redwood Terrorists" by Mark Heimann, published in the Anderson Valley Advertiser on May 7, 1997. Lynette Hulsey owns 47 acres of land outside of Piercy in northern Mendocino County, California. That land controls access to 2000 acres of heavily timbered land that Pacific Lumber wants to log. Gyppo logger Doyle Lancaster wanted to buy that 47 acres and an additional 1200 adjacent acres. A deal was made, but it fell through when Hulsey and her friend John Hockett decided it would simply result in the destruction (by logging) of the properties. It also turned out that Lancaster was fronting for Pacific Lumber, which was to buy the property from him as soon as he received it from Hulsey. So Lancaster sued Hockett and Hulsey over breach of contract. No big deal. But the thugs at Pacific Lumber did not want to wait for a trial. On January 28, 1997 Hockett and Hulsey found that the barn they were storing valuables had been smashed in through one side. Two safes had been stolen along with numerous other items, and more of their property was destroyed. In addition to valuables the safes had contained critical and irreplacable trial evidence. Mendocino County deputy DeMarco, finally bothering to investigate a week later, decided a homeless person must have walked off with a 2000 pound safe and an 8000 pound safe. Hockett put up flyers offering a reward. A tipster told him the safes were at the Orbin Lumber Company mill in Carlotta, right across the road from Pacific Lumber's Carlotta mill, and also identified one of the thieves as Marc Broussard. Hockett had to go to the mill alone, as the Sheriff's department refused to send a deputy. Hockett's life was threatened by mill workers at the site. However, Max Lennons was identified as another of the theives. Lennons admitted knowing and having worked for Doyle Lancaster, and with his son David. David Lancaster was on probation at the time, and "is the heroic young man who in 1989 punched 50 year old Mem Hill in the nose at an Earth First! demonstration." Lennons was soon arrested on an unrelated warrant. In the past his home had been raided by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, which discovered a bomb factory there. He already had a history of explosives convictions. With Lennons arrested, Hockett was able to visit Lennons' house and discover property stolen from the barn. Finally Humboldt County's Sheriff's Department obtained a warrant and searched the house, finding 200 items stolen from Hockett and Hulsey. Also in the house were Nazi paraphernalia. "There were also boxes of newspaper clippings, flyers and pictures of Judi Bari and Earth First! including many articles about the bombing of Bari and Darryl Cherney in Oakland on May 24, 1990." Max Lennons and Marc Broussard are in jail on grand theft and receiving stolen property charges. The Lancasters, Orbin Lumber Company executives and owners, and Pacific Lumber Company executives and owners, including Charles "the Don" Hurwitz, are still at large.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Napoleon Williams and Mildred Jones, the
director's of Decatur's Black Liberation Radio (BLR, 99.7 FM)
were arrested on Saturday, May 10 by a police SWAT team.
Williams is being held on $20,000 bail and remains imprisoned.
As many subscribers are well aware, BLR has been subjected
to a relentless series of attacks by the forces of repression
since first going on the air in 1990 (see "Background" below).
By serving as Decatur's "voices of the voiceless", exposing
police brutality, creating a strong alternative cultural voice
for the oppressed and for providing a bridge between striking
Staley and Caterpillar workers and the black community, Williams
and Jones are experiencing the full weight of corporate/state
repression.
Napoleon and Mildred are facing felony federal charges of
"eavesdropping" on officials who have kidnapped and stolen their
children. The current charges stem from a January 9, 1997 raid
on their home and the seizure of their radio equipment,
computers, files and other materials by the Illinois State
Attorney General's office.
Write and call your protests to the Illinois State Attorney,
Jim Ryan, demanding the unconditional release of Napoleon
Williams and Mildred Jones, the dropping of these bogus charges
and the return of their children. E-mail the Decatur Herald &
Review with a copy of your protest (see below).
As independent media outlets - from micro-radio to the
internet - challenge a corporate-state media hegemony that
defends the "fundamental order of things", we must step up to the
plate and DEMAND freedom for Napoleon Williams and Mildred Jones!
