James Earl Carter, Jr. (Jimmy) was the 39th President of the United States of America. He was elected President in 1976 and served from January 20, 1977 until January 20, 1981. During this span of time the U.S. economy was in poor condition because the U.S. financial elite's ability to exploit the world's economy was damaged by the loss of the Vietnam War. President Carter was a Democrat. He was born October 1, 1924 and is alive as of the last update to this page.
